Right Back - Bacary Sagna (Manchester City & France)

Pivotal to Arsenal's FA Cup success of last year, the experienced right back's presence is sorely missed at the Emirates who are still searching for someone so versatile to fill his boots - with Mathieu Debuchy's injury ruining the early part of his Gunners career.

Centre Back - Neven Subotic (Borussia Dortmund & Serbia)

Perhaps forgotten due to his long term injury last season, there's a reason Dortmund were so leaky at the back in the Serb's absence. Hummels' long term centre-back partner would add steel and bite to any back line.

Centre Back - Jerome Boating (Bayern Munich & Germany)

An adaptable player, Boateng is at his best when played at centre back. His muscular physique and undeniable athleticism helped Germany capture the World Cup in 2014 and his form has continued for Bayern throughout the new season.

Left Back - Jordi Alba (Barcelona & Spain)

After years of being unable to fill a problem position, Barcelona found their solution in young left back Jordi Alba who has also gone on to make himself a regular in the Spain starting XI and instrumental in their Euro 2012 success.


Central Midfielder - Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal & Wales)

A devastatingly good season from Ramsey at Arsenal was almost derailed by injury but the occasional Wales captain showed his class with winning goals in the FA Cup Final and Community Shield for Arsenal in 2014.

Central Midfielder - Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich & Germany)

One of the best all round midfielders in world football, Schweinsteiger was instrumental in Germany's charge to the final and showed his will to fight for the cause trying to block a free kick in the dying minutes of the final whilst bleeding from the head and suffering a cramping leg.

Left Wing - Eden Hazard (Chelsea & Belgium)

Despite the gargantuan price tag, Hazard has not disappointed since his big money move from Lille to Chelsea in 2012. He can pass, he can create, he can score and although his weekly terrorising of defences occasionally doesn't gets the plaudits it deserves, Chelsea fans know just how crucial the Belgian is to their side.

Right Wing - Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid & France)


After a blistering season for Real Sociedad, Griezmann caught the eye of some of Europe's biggest clubs in the summer. He ultimately chose Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid and with already five goals from his preferred wide positions, Griezmann is a name you can expect to hear quite a lot in the next few years.

Centre Forward - Luis Suarez (Barcelona & Uruguay)

Perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised that Barcelona's £65 million summer transfer hasn't made the official UEFA Team of the Year given the World Cup controversies surrounding the Uruguayan. However, there is no doubting Suarez's immense talent and the contribution he made to Liverpool's title push last season, almost single handedly winning the Anfield side their first League title in 14 years.

Centre Forward -  Mario Mandzukic (Atletico Madrid & Croatia)

He may not be the most vogue addition to the list due to his workmanlike style but there should be no doubting the skills of the big Croat. After being sidelined at Bayern by Pep Guardiola, Mandzukic has found himself invigorated under Simeone at Atletico Madrid, scoring seven goals in his first 14 competitive escapes for the Spanish side.
